thomas is imaginative and quiet.

q: what songs are you listening to atm, or best describe you?
a: knxwledge - allurluhv.
mike - delicate.
mk.gee - dimeback.
navy blue - basis.

q: what got you into creating art?
a: erm, i think as a kid i wanted to tell stories through images. i always really liked picture books and the way the characters looked, and i think as a kid - probabaly even now; something that i wanna be able to do through images - i think that same level of excitement that i get, i wanted to be able to create it for myself and other people.

q: do you feel a connection between what you listen to, and what you make?
a: yeah definitely, there’s a synchronisation to it. not that my music informs what type of emotion is gonna be in the art, but there’s definitely a connection between the energy that the music gives me, and my energy to create - (i repeated, “your energy to create?”) - yeah.

thomas is calm and curious.

q: if there was something that could make your journey easier, what would that be?
a: (in a laughing tone) erm i would say.. probably like.. either residencies, or just like oppurtunities to get resources for cheap, or free. i think travelling out, whether it’s outside of london or outside of the uk, would greatly influence like- my art work. i’d get a different perspective from other people, and i’d be willing to learn from other artists, or professions within that space. and then obviously resources; if i can get them for free or cheap, it means i have the autonomy to create what i want when i want, as opposed to waiting and saving.

q: what keeps you going?
a: it’s a geniuine love for the craft to be honest. obviously there’s some other things, you know like wanting to have a solo show and travel the world, but i think honestly it’s just the love and excitement for getting better, or exploring more that keeps me going - i think it’s a great thing.

q: advice for someone who’s unsure about where they’re going?
a: if it’s in general i would just say do it. the advice i would say is just keep going and whatever you want to pursue, do it, because the time that you spend not doing it, that time is still gonna go, so if you don’t do it in 2 years, you’ve wasted 2 years not doing it. whereas if you’re doing it in 2 years, yeah you failed or you haven’t produced what you want, but you’ve used 2 years to do some sort of hard work. keep going and you’ll find some fun in it.
